702 - Today we continued to work on using the textbook to research information about Early European Explorers, Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain. 

Homework: The research questions and map are due on Monday. The textbook can be found in the D2L Gr.7 Core Shell in Links (Our Canada Textbook Ch.2).

You ecological foot print assignment is to be completed by Monday.  You can find a copy of the assignment here. If you are doing the assignment digitally please submit your final copy to the dropbox on D2L. 

Math  

Complete the  Multiplying Decimals Assignment for Monday.  You may use calculators on the backside but not on the front side.  Show all of your work.  You can find a copy of the assignment here.

701 - Today we discussed reasons for Early European Exploration. We learned about exploring for the purpose of becoming rich - GOLD! We focused on the Mercantile Cycle. This Mercantile Cycle puzzle is due tomorrow for homework!

702- Today students worked on the skill of reading for information. They read about Jacques Cartier and collected information about why  he was exploring, who he met, and what his experiences were.
 Homework --> Complete research on Jacques Cartier on the chart paper provided today in class.

701 Hum - Oct. 17th

Today we completed Prediction Paragraphs that we started yesterday. Students were predicting if they thought the First Nations culture and way of life would change once the Europeans come into contact with them. They were focusing on creating a clear topic sentence and backing up their opinion with facts and examples. This should have been printed and handed in today or submitted in google drive.

Monday we will begin work on new vocabulary for our Exploration unit.

702 Hum - Oct. 17th

Today students completed vocabulary work we started yesterday. Students became experts in groups on one new word that will be discussed throughout the next unit (Exploration). Students presented the words to the class in the form of a skit and Frayer Model (definition, example, non-example, and pictures and details).

Part 2- Estimating

4.  a) Which option is going to cost less, an order of cactus cut potatoes and a Caesar salad, or poutine  and a taco salad.  Use an estimate to figure it out and show strategy that you used.


5.  You have $50.00 to spend on dinner for three people.  What would you buy?  What is approximate total cost?   If you estimate your total cost to be over $50 change your order to remain under $50. 
  
6.  You ordered 3 medium pizzas, one rustic Italian, one BBQ Chicken, and one ultimate peperoni.  You pay with a $100 bill and receive a  dollar bill $5, a loonie, and a quarter back in change.  Does this seem reasonable?  Justify your answer with an estimate. 



7.  You have $20.00.  Jasdeep thinks that is enough for the both of you to buy an individual pizza.  Is she right?  Explain your thinking.

We have been continuing our work with adding and subtracting decimals in class though an assignment that used a Boston Pizza menu.  Part I of this assignment is due tomorrow.  The menu can be found in the content folders on D2L.

Part 1- Calculating
1. a)  How much would it cost to buy a single order of cheese toast and a Chicken Cannelloni?  Show the strategy you used.

b)  How much change would you receive from a $20.00 bill? Show your strategy.


2.  If you and your friends wanted to buy 2 large pepperoni pizzas, and 2 full sized Caesar salads to share and you had a $50.00 bill, would you have enough money?


3.  a) If you were ordering a meal ( you can include appetizers, mains, and dessert) for yourself from this menu what would you order and how much would it cost.  Show your work in an organized way.



b) You had a $20 bill, $10 bill, two $5 bills, a toonie, three loonies, 5 quarters, 8 dimes and 10 nickels.  What bills and coins would you use to pay and how much change would you receive from your purchase?
